The Smoke Alarm Brigade Is Back in Dorval

Dorval, June 7, 2012 - For the third year in a row, the Service de sécurité incendie de Montréal (SIM) will offer again this summer a door-to-door service of smoke alarm inspections. A brigade of students in fire safety will visit homes in various areas of the agglomeration of Montréal, including the City of Dorval, from June 5 to August 17, 2012, to underline the importance of having a working smoke alarm and to check if each home has one installed. This initiative brings added support to fire prevention efforts already made on the island of Montréal.

The objective of this innovative project is to remind residents that smoke alarms save lives. Members of this brigade will work in cooperation with prevention officers and firefighters, who already carry out such inspections on a regular basis. Last year, the smoke alarm brigade visited nearly 82,000 homes, and gave out and installed 6,614 batteries. This shows the importance of their contribution.
