The City of Dorval has put in place a patrol service to watch over its buildings and installations between the hours of 4 p.m. to 4 a.m. Its presence on the territory contributes also to improve the safety of residents and serves as a vandalism and crime deterrent. Furthermore, it has been mandated with the application of some municipal by-laws, namely the by-law concerning parking.
Violent winds, flooding, earthquakes. These are some of the disasters that we are confronted with more and more each year, no matter where we live in Quebec. It is possible, however, to prevent some of the damages caused by a disaster or to reduce their extent by taking some simple precautions.
You are the first person responsible for your safety!
When a disaster occurs or emergency measures are declared, it is up to you to take the first steps to ensure your safety, the safety of your family, and to safeguard your property.
What can you do?
If the situation requires that you stay at home, you may have to meet your basic needs while waiting for assistance or until essential services are restored. Therefore, it is important to prepare an emergency kit and to have the following articles on hand at all times:
Don’t forget to replace batteries, water, and non-perishable food regularly.
If a disaster strikes, the City of Dorval offers citizens several shelters, as part of its emergency measures plan. Depending on the magnitude of the disaster, the number of shelters can vary. However, here are the two main shelters available in case of a disaster:
In these centres, food, first aid kits, blankets, and so forth, are available to victims.
However, in order to improve the speed and efficiency of the City’s response during disaster situations (heat waves, ice storm, etc.), we invite all residents who may require special assistance, such as seniors and persons living alone or with any disabilities, to register with the Community Aid Service of the City of Dorval. To register, print the form which you will find by clicking here, complete it, and forward it to the address indicated thereon. All information provided will remain strictly confidential and will be used to intervene in disaster situations only. For more information on that form, please call at 514 633-4001.
