HHW and Electronic Materials Pickup on April 21

Dorval, April 10, 2012 – The City of Dorval will hold a household hazardous waste (HHW) and electronic materials pickup on Saturday, April 21, 2012, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., in the parking lot of Ballantyne Park located on 520 Bouchard Boulevard. Only domestic waste will be accepted at the collection. HHW from industries and businesses will be refused.

Residents are invited to bring any hazardous waste and to take advantage of this opportunity to safely get rid of products such as oven cleaners, disinfectants, aerosols, medication, oil or latex paint leftovers, varnishes, rust inhibitors, strippers, oils, thinners, solvents, acids, gasoline, fuel, antifreeze, brake fluid, motor oil, batteries, weed killers, insecticides, fungicides, rat poison, pool maintenance products, full or empty propane gas tanks, and so forth.

Never mix or pour HHW into other containers as it may cause dangerous chemical reactions or prevent the HHW from being recycled or reused. Remember that empty hazardous waste containers are not accepted and should be disposed of with the regular garbage pickup.

Dorval residents will also be able to drop off any electronic material on April 21, at the same location:

  • Computers, screens, printers, and other peripherals
  • Photocopiers, faxes, scans, and modems
  • Televisions, radios, and VHS, DVD and CD players
  • Digital cameras and video cameras
  • Microwaves, video game consoles, cell phones, and answering machines

Through this pickup, the City of Dorval can get rid of electronic materials, which take up more and more space in landfill sites, in a safe and responsible way. They represent dangerous waste that contains heavy metals, such as cadmium, lead, and mercury, which contaminate the environment and are harmful to human health. Last year, no less than 5,500 cubic feet of electronic materials were collected.
