The City of Dorval Commits to Greening its Territory by Supporting Private Initiatives

Published on 11-16-2017

On November 2, in the presence of representatives from real estate company Cominar, the GRAME, and Soverdi, Dorval Mayor Edgar Rouleau announced the development of a new subsidy to support Dorval institutions, businesses and industries (IBI) who wish to add to the greening of their territory by planting more trees.

The financial aid provided by the City allows IBIs to purchase trees at low cost through the GRAME (Groupe de recherche appliquée en macroécologie). The planting of trees is undertaken by the GRAME and subsequent maintenance is the business’s responsibility.

Mayor Edgar Rouleau, who is very enthusiastic about the launch of the project, stated: ‘’In Dorval, the environment is at the heart of our priorities and we are very happy to be able to contribute to the greening of Dorval’s businesses. The trees that are planted today will enable companies like Cominar to diminish the heat island effect in our industrial sector, and will also help trap atmospheric pollutants while reducing noise pollution. We hope that several other companies will follow suit in the coming months; that is why we are pledging to support the plantation of 2,000 trees each year for the next 5 years!’’.

This tree plantation project, named “ICI, on verdit!”, aims to encourage industry, business, and institution owners to plant trees in order to fight urban heat islands by increasing the urban forest cover across their lands.

IBIs who wish to take part in the project and have trees planted on their land can communicate with the GRAME in one of the following ways:

  1. By Internet at www.grame.org/index.html
  2. By phone at 514 634-7205
  3. In person, at 735 Notre-Dame Street in Lachine
