Occupancy Permit

Anyone wishing to occupy all or part of a commercial or industrial building must first obtain an occupation permit attesting that the intended use of the premises complies with the zoning by-laws.

Steps to obtain an occupancy certificate

  • A request for an occupancy permit is required before occupying a local or commercial/industrial building
  • All activities must be conducted in accordance with the laws, regulations and codes, as well as according to municipal regulations and the CCQ-2010.
  • The company must be registered with the Registre des entreprise du Québec prior to obtaining their occupancy certificate
  • A separate application must be made for signage
  • A separate application must be made for renovations
  • The occupancy certificate will be issued only after approval of the final inspection

Non-compliance with these conditions can lead to the cancellation of the permit.

DOCUMENTS TO SUBMIT
1) Occupancy request form duly filled out
2) Copy of a signed lease
3) Detailed floor plan of the space occupied by the tenant
4) Proof of identity (or photocopy if sent by email)
5) Bring these documents to the Urban Planning Department (60 Martin Avenue) or send them to occupation@ville.dorval.qc.ca

We will contact you once the permit is ready.

By-law RCM-60F-2016

  • Timeframe for issuing a building permit
    Starting from the time all the information and technical documentation required is submitted and found to be in conformity, not including errors, and the required fees have been paid, the competent authority shall have 30 business days in which to issue (or, as the case may be, refuse to issue) a building permit.
     
  • Timeframe for issuing a certificate of authorization
    Starting from the time all the information and technical documentation required is submitted and found to be in conformity, not including errors, the competent authority has 30 business days in which to issue (or, as the case may be, refuse to issue) a certificate of authorization.

The information collected via this form is required to process occupancy permits. It is intended to be processed exclusively by City of Dorval employees who require access to it in the course of their duties, as well as by current or future subcontractors or partners for exclusively technical and logistical reasons. Physical, organizational, contractual, and technological security measures have been put in place to protect it. We will use, disclose, or retain these records only as long as necessary for the fulfillment of those purposes and to the extent permitted or required by law. You have the right to access and rectify your personal information, and you may withdraw your consent at any time.
