Join us for a group experience as we’ll witness an incredible total solar eclipse! The Dorval Astronomy Club will be on site with their telescopes and expertise to help you take advantage of this event which isn’t foreseen again for the next 180 years. It is a once-in-a-lifetime event!
We invite you to bring a picnic blanket or a chair in order to be more comfortable during the event. We also encourage you to come on foot, as the parking lot will be closed for safety reasons.
Here is the full schedule:
- Noon: Beginning of the eclipse protective glasses distribution (advance registration is required to obtain a pair)
- 2:14 p.m.: Eclipse begins
- 3:26 p.m.: Total eclipse begins
- 3:27 p.m.: Maximum eclipse
- 3:28 p.m.: Total eclipse ends
- 4:36 p.m.: Eclipse ends

Free advance registration is required to ensure that everyone will receive a pair of protective glasses. Space is therefore limited. Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult at all times for a security purposes.

▶ As of Monday, March 18, at 8:30 a.m., until April 7, at 5 p.m. (or until the event is full)
▶ Online or in person at the Dorval Aquatic and Sports Complex, the Sarto-Desnoyers Community Centre, and the Surrey Aquatic and Community Centre, according to regular opening hours.
Each participating family member must register (e.g.: two registrations are required for a parent with his/her child).
Beginning of the Reconstruction Work of Highway 520 Overpass Bridges, Above 43rd Avenue, as of April 22

The ministère des Transports et de la Mobilité durable wishes to inform motorists that the reconstruction work of Highway 520 (Côte-de-Liesse) overpass bridges, above 43rd Avenue, will begin on April 22 and will continue until the end of 2025.
The work will be undertaken in two phases:
- 2024: Reconstruction of the service roads’ overpass bridges (Côte-de-Liesse Road) in both directions
- 2025: Reconstruction of the highway’s overpass bridges
Traffic disruptions
As of April 22 and until the end of 2024
- Complete closure of 43rd Avenue, between Ryan Avenue and Joseph-Dubreuil Road
- Complete closure of Ryan Avenue, between 43rd Avenue and Renaud Avenue
- Complete closure of Joseph-Dubreuil Road, between 43rd Avenue and 46th Avenue
- Complete closure of the access ramp from 43rd Avenue to the eastbound Highway 520 service road
- Local traffic will be maintained during this work
As of April 22, for approximately 3 weeks
- Closure of the right lanes on Highway 520 in both directions
- Closure of the left lanes on the Highway 520 service roads in both directions
Other traffic disruptions will be required to carry out this project, namely the closure of the Highway 520 service roads in both directions. The dates and details regarding this disruption will be announced as soon as possible.
Free shuttle service
- 43rd Avenue will be closed until the end of 2024 to all vehicles and pedestrians, between Ryan Avenue and Joseph-Dubreuil Road. A free shuttle service will therefore be offered 24/7 to allow pedestrians and cyclists to cross the highway near 43rd Avenue.
- The shuttles’ stop points will be located:
- On 52nd Avenue, near the eastbound Highway 520 service road
- On 32nd Avenue, near the eastbound Highway 520 service road
- At the intersection of Ryan and Riddle avenues
- On Jean-Paul Laframboise Road, near the westbound Highway 520 service road
Motorists will be invited to take the identified detours. In case of poor weather conditions or operational constraints, this closing could be postponed.

Dorval’s Annual Photography Contest - 2024 Edition

This year’s Dorval in One Click! contest is all about close-up photography and details. Whether it’s a close-up view of wildlife, local flora or elsewhere, keep your eyes wide open and capture it up close!
This contest is open to Dorval citizens of all age. There are many prizes to be won! Winners could have their photo published in the City's communication tools (cybernews, City Communiqué, website, etc.). The photos received will be displayed on outdoor exhibition panels panels in the Peace Park Arboretum and the Surrey Aquatic and Community Centre.
How to participate
Entries are made online only, by email to photodorval@ville.dorval.qc.ca.
Technical specifications and rules
Photos or participants who do not respect these standards will be refused.
- Participants must reside in Dorval.
- All photos must show a subject taken very close up.
- Photos must be submitted in JPEG format.
- Photographs must be sent in high resolution: minimum of 75 DPI or the equivalent of 1000 x 500 pixels and a maximum of 300 DPI or the equivalent of 2400 x 3300 pixels, in an 8 X 10 horizontal or vertical format. Files must not exceed 12 MB in size.
- It is the participant's obligation to have any recognizable person in a photograph fill out the approval form. See template here.
- By submitting a photo, the participant agrees to allow it to be used for promotional purposes for City activities and programs and thus assigns the rights to it.
- If the participant is 17 years old or younger, the parent or guardian must authorize the entry.
- The participant must provide the following information by filling out the appropriate dynamic form and returning it to the email address indicated above:
- Title of the photograph
- Name of the participant
- Complete address
- Telephone number
- Email address (if different from the sending address)
- Photos submitted must be original works that have never previously won a prize in a contest. Participants must own all rights to the photos they submit to the contest.
- 2 photos per person are accepted. Please identify the 2 files of the photographs with their title.
Selection and photo exhibition
- The photographs submitted to the contest will be posted on the City of Dorval's Facebook page so that the public can vote for their favourite photo. Keep an eye out!
- In addition to the public's grand prize, a jury will select three grand prize winners. The images will be judged on originality, quality of composition and respect of the theme and technical specifications.
- The winners of the contest will be displayed in the Peace Park Arboretum and on the fields of the Surrey Aquatic and Community Centre.
- Prizes won are non-transferable.
Prizes
Winners will receive a gift certificate for a Dorval business of their choice.
• First prize: $150
• Second prize: $100
• Third prize: $75
Public’s choice: $50
