Municipal Taxes

New property owners must pay a tax on real estate transfers. This tax is payable within thirty (30) days after the invoice is sent out by the City. It is based on either the sale price or the standardized municipal evaluation, whichever is highest.

Municipal taxes are levied on buildings and land, and are based on the municipal valuation which is established by the Evaluation Department of the City of Montreal.

Please note that as of 2009, taxpayers will be receiving only one tax bill, that of the City of Dorval, which will include the amounts that are payable to the Agglomeration. Payment instructions are indicated on the bill.

Tax bill and property valuation

It is possible to receive your annual tax bill for the City of Dorval online (instead of a paper version, delivered to your home).

  • On your financial institution’s website (preferred option)
  • By mail (please attach the payment stub)
  • In person, at City Hall (60, Martin Avenue, Dorval, Quebec, H9S 3R4), by cheque, debit card, or cash (exact amount)

You have a mortgage? Before submitting a tax payment to the City, make sure your mortgage creditor has not already paid your taxes on your behalf.

APPLICATION FOR REVIEW

The property assessment roll is determined by the Service de l’évaluation foncière de la Ville de Montréal and is filed every three years. If you disagree with the assessment of your property and believe that the information on the roll does not reflect reality, you can submit an application for an adjustment.
