The effects of climate change are evident across our territory: temperatures are rising, precipitation patterns are becoming increasingly unpredictable, and extreme weather events are occurring more frequently. Aware of these challenges, we take our responsibility seriously as a committed municipality to take concrete action now—both to adapt effectively and to mitigate the impacts of these changes on our environment and quality of life.
Through the OASIS Program – Component 1, the City of Dorval has received a grant of $1,289,484 for its project “The City of Dorval: A Resilient Territory.” This initiative aims to strengthen our community’s resilience to the effects of climate change by integrating green infrastructure that reduces urban heat islands and improves stormwater management. Following the announcement of the grant, our teams began the initial steps of the project in July 2024.
What is the OASIS Program?
The OASIS Program aims to provide financial support to municipal organizations and Indigenous communities for the planning and implementation of greening projects designed to help environments adapt to the impacts of climate change. These initiatives contribute to reducing the effects of heat waves and heavy precipitation—phenomena that are increasing in both frequency and intensity. The program promotes the creation or enhancement of green infrastructure to generate cooling zones and improve stormwater infiltration capacity.
The program is structured around three components:
Component 1
Support for planning greening projects for municipal organizations and Indigenous communities. This component includes risk analysis related to heat and heavy rainfall, identification of adaptation solutions through greening, cost-benefit and resilience assessments of targeted green infrastructure, as well as stakeholder engagement activities.
Component 2
Support for the implementation of green infrastructure aimed at preventing and reducing the impacts of heat waves and heavy precipitation across the territory.
Component 3
Support for the maintenance of green infrastructure funded under Component 2. This component includes the development and adoption of a sustainability strategy to ensure the long-term durability of the completed projects.
