Why should the kiddos have all the summer reading fun?!

If you have fond memories of participating in summer reading programs growing up, now is your chance to take a trip down memory lane, explore the Library’s collections, and maybe discover a new author or genre. Of course, it wouldn’t be a summer reading program without a prize! The more challenges you complete, the more chances you have to win!

A free bilingual program for children of all ages, interests, and abilities

This summer, weigh anchor and set sail for an adventure! Dive into reading and join kids from across the country to participate in Canada’s biggest and best summer reading program. All you need is your imagination and your love of reading—no bathing suit required!

As of June 27, pick up a free TD Summer Reading bag at the Library, while supplies last. Keep track of your reading and submit your totals online or at the Library to be eligible for our weekly draw.

A free bilingual activity for babies age 2 and under with their caregivers

Tuesdays, at 10:15 a.m., from June 30 to August 11 (30 minutes)
At the Heather Allard Place, in the Dorval Library courtyard*

No registration required.

Babies and parents will enjoy songs, rhymes, and finger play, followed by playtime outside in the garden. Don’t forget your blanket!

*In the event of poor weather or extreme heat, the activity will be moved indoors.

Saturday, July 4, at 1:30 p.m. (60 minutes)

Recreate the shimmering scales of a tropical fish with embossed foil art! Use simple tools to press patterns and textures into metallic foil, creating raised, reflective details that make your fish design truly stand out. Watch your artwork come to life as the light catches every embossed scale and swirl!

Are you able to express yourself in French, but want to improve? Join this Conversation Club if you would like to improve your French! These informal weekly get-togethers, led by a facilitator, are a great way to practise your conversation skills with fellow learners, gain confidence, and meet new people.

* Please note that the Conversation Club is an informal discussion group, not a French class. Participants should have an intermediate level of French and be able to understand the main points of a conversation and respond in complete sentences on practical, familiar topics.

A free lecture with demonstration and tasting, presented by Reina Sakao

Wednesday, July 8, at 7:30 p.m. (90 minutes)

Reina Sakao, also known as “Madame Matcha”, was born into a fourth-generation Japanese tea house family. She began practicing the tea ceremony with her grandmother at the age of 14 and is now a second-level Urasenke instructor. During this presentation, which includes a demonstration and matcha tasting, Reina will share Japanese culture through the long-standing traditions and quiet pleasures of the tea ceremony.

Learn surprising facts and discover what makes reptiles truly unique. Meet snakes, lizards, and more—even an alligator snapping turtle, the largest freshwater turtle native to North America. With its powerful jaws and rugged shell, it looks like a mini dinosaur!
