Open since 2002, the Dorval Museum of Local History and Heritage combines historic cachet, innovative multimedia installations and original exhibitions to offer its visitors a unique experience in the heart of Dorval’s history.

The Museum is divided into four sections:

the former stalls which are quite rare in Canada,
the Hall of Fame of Dorval, featuring several characters who have shaped Dorval since its origins,
the atrium with its unparalleled view of Lake Saint-Louis
and upstairs a timeline punctuated by artifacts and multimedia installations tells us the great events of the Dorval history.

The Dorval Museum of Local History and Heritage is always looking for dynamic, history-loving people to join its team of volunteers.

If you were a volunteer at the Museum you could:

Increase your knowledge of the history of the Dorval community through on-going training at your own pace.
Spend some of your free time within our flexible schedule in a friendly and magical environment.
Share your interest in our history and heritage with other enthusiasts.
Take part in various events and activities for free, such as visits by various groups, dinners, vernissages ..

Almost all objects were given or lent by citizens concerned with maintaining history and preserving the past.

The Museum is a non-profit organization. Income tax receipts are issued on demand for donations of objects or cash.

Your ideas are important to us; share your vision of history with us via email at musee@ville.dorval.qc.ca.

If you have any objects that you would like to donate to the Dorval Museum of Local History and Heritage, please fill out the form and return it to the Museum. This form is also available at the Museum.

Mission statement

Dorval, its territory, its community, and its history are at the heart of our mission. A museum of history and a museum of society, the Dorval Museum of Local History and Heritage fosters a sense of belonging and contributes to the preservation, enhancement, and accessibility of a heritage that is unique to the communities of Dorval and the surrounding area.

Mandates of the institution

The DMLHH carries out its mission through the following mandates:

Celebrate life in Dorval and the surrounding area. Local history, its people, groups, and landmark events form the foundation of the Museum's various mandates, programs, and activities;
Preserve local heritage. The Museum collects, documents, and preserves tangible and intangible elements significant to the history and experiences of the communities on its territory;
To highlight and pass on the history of its community. The Museum implements a comprehensive educational program that promotes the use, understanding, and integration of knowledge in a perspective of enrichment and self-development;
Promote the appropriation of heritage and the growth of a sense of belonging in its community. The Museum positions itself as a hub for community life and the democratization of culture by using a human, playful, and open approach in all its services.

The City of Dorval is registered in the Companion Leisure Card (CAL) program, which provides free access for the companion of a person with a permanent disability or mental illness.

Dorval: More Than Three Hundred Years of History!

This permanent exhibition portrays the social and economic history of the City of Dorval, from New France to the present day.

Its three components, showcased through 19th century coach house stalls, a Hall of Honor, and a time line enhanced by artifacts and various multimedia stations tells us the great events of our city where it is great to live!
