A free bilingual program for children of all ages, interests, and abilities

This summer, weigh anchor and set sail for an adventure! Dive into reading and join kids from across the country to participate in Canada’s biggest and best summer reading program. All you need is your imagination and your love of reading—no bathing suit required!

As of June 27, pick up a free TD Summer Reading bag at the Library, while supplies last. Keep track of your reading and submit your totals online or at the Library to be eligible for our weekly draw.

A free bilingual activity for babies age 2 and under with their caregivers

Tuesdays, at 10:15 a.m., from June 30 to August 11 (30 minutes)
At the Heather Allard Place, in the Dorval Library courtyard*

No registration required.

Babies and parents will enjoy songs, rhymes, and finger play, followed by playtime outside in the garden. Don’t forget your blanket!

*In the event of poor weather or extreme heat, the activity will be moved indoors.

A free bilingual activity for children ages 3 to 5 with their caregivers

Thursdays, at 10:15 a.m., from July 2 to August 13 (60 minutes)
At the Heather Allard Place, in the Dorval Library courtyard*

Bring a blanket, find a shady spot, and enjoy stories perfect for preschoolers, outside in the beautiful garden.

Learn surprising facts and discover what makes reptiles truly unique. Meet snakes, lizards, and more—even an alligator snapping turtle, the largest freshwater turtle native to North America. With its powerful jaws and rugged shell, it looks like a mini dinosaur!

Discover the Cricut, a smart cutting machine that can precisely cut paper, vinyl, and other craft materials to create custom designs. Choose a stencil pattern to be cut by the Cricut, then use your stencil and paint to create your own unique aquatic artwork on canvas.

Discover the art of origami with your family at this creative and interactive workshop. Guided by a professional origami artist, children and adults alike can fold, decorate, and personalize their own paper fish at their own pace. Prerequisites: Must be able to swim 25 metres and thread water for 3 minutes without assistance of a personal flotation device.

Description: This course covers fundamental diving techniques, from basic standing dives to proper takeoff, entry, and body control with an emphasis on safety, balance, and coordination. Perfect for beginners looking to build confidence on the diving board.

Prerequisites: Must be able to swim a full lap of the pool (25 metres). Also, must be able to jump off the diving board and swim unassisted to the side of the pool.

Introduction to Water

For ages: 2 to 7 (age as of the first lesson of the session)

Description: An aquatic session designed for beginners with little to no experience in the water. The focus is made on water safety, comfort, and basic movement in shallow water.

Prerequisites: Must be able to go in the water on their own.

Skills to be developed: 

• Entering and exiting the water safely without assistance.
• Blowing bubbles and putting the face in the water.
• Assisted floating on front and back.
• Swim 12 metres with a flotation aid and 2 metres unassisted, face in the water.
• Jump from the side of the pool with a bubble on, unassisted.

Participation capacity: 5 participants per class

Fundamental Skills

For ages: 3 to 8 (age as of the first lesson of the session)

Description: An aquatic session that builds on water confidence and introduces basic swimming skills.

Prerequisites: Passed the White level

Skills to be developed: 

• Unassisted front and back floating.
• Demonstrate a front and back glide from the wall.
• Swim 12 metres unassisted, face in the water.
• Jump from the side of the pool, unassisted.
• Thread water for 10 seconds.

Participation capacity: 5 participants per class

Developing Propulsion

For ages: 4 to 14 (age as of the first lesson of the session)

Description: An aquatic session that focuses on developing independent swimming ability and coordination.

Prerequisites: Passed the Yellow level

Skills to be developed: 

• Push off the wall with streamline and kick (6 metres)
• Swim front crawl for 12 metres with proper body positioning
• Swim 25 metres continuously
• Backstroke kick for 12 metres with proper body positioning
• Rolling floats, front to back and back to front
• Thread water for 30 seconds

Participation capacity: 5 participants per class

Stroke Development

Description: Introduction to more structured stroke techniques and endurance.

Prerequisites: Passed the Green level

Skills to be developed:

• Submerged push-off into front streamline kick
• Swim 25 metres of front crawl with proper body positioning and breath timing
• Backstroke kick for 25 metres with proper body positioning
• Backstroke swim for 12 metres with proper body positioning
• Retrieve an object at the bottom of the pool
• Introduction to stationary egg-beater

Description: Refining strokes for efficiency and endurance.

Prerequisites: Passed the Red level

• Push off the wall in a streamline position on the back
• Front crawl - Swim 50 metres with proper body positioning and breath timing
• Backstroke - Swim 25 metres continuously with proper technique.
• Breaststroke - Swim for 25 metres

Description: An aquatic session that focuses on increasing endurance and refining all strokes.

Prerequisites: Passed the Blue level

• Front crawl - Swim 50 metres continuously with proper technique
• Backstroke - Swim 50 metres continuously with proper technique
• Breaststroke - Swim 50 metres of breaststroke with proper coordination
• Flip turns for front crawl and backstroke
• Diving from a standing position

Competitive Readiness

Description: An aquatic session that prepares swimmers for competitive training with advanced skills.

Prerequisites: Passed the Bronze level

Skills to be developed:

• Swim 75 metres continuously using multiple strokes
• Swim 75 metres of front crawl and backstroke with race turns
• 50 metres of butterfly kick with proper technique
• Endurance : treading water for 3 minutes
• Racing dives and breakouts from a dive

Pre-Competitive Elite

Description: It is the highest level before competitive swimming, focusing on endurance and race strategies.

Prerequisites: Passed the Silver level

Skills to be developed:

• Swim 100 metres continuously for all strokes
• Swim 100 metres of each stroke with race-quality turns
• Introduction to butterfly full arm and leg coordination
• Racing starts and finishes for all strokes
• Mastering underwater kick off starts and turns
• Endurance treading water for 5 minutes

A 3-basket disc golf course is located at Windsor Park (corner of Dawson Avenue and Fénelon Boulevard). It is available year-round, seven days a week. 

Equipment loan

Discs may be rented, free of charge, at the reception of Dorval Aquatic and Sports Complex (1295 Dawson Avenue), in exchange for your Dorval Activity Card or a piece of identification, according to the following schedule:

• Monday to Friday, from 6:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.
• Saturday and Sunday, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Due to its prime location on the shores of Lake St-Louis, Dorval can offer its residents a number of nautical activities during the summer.

Lastly, a boat launching ramp is offered to Dorval residents from one of the prettiest bays on Lake Saint-Louis. It is located in Pine Beach Park, at the corner of chemin du Bord-du-Lac–Lakeshore and Saint-Louis Avenue.

As well, the City offers various skating options to its citizens, whether it be outside or inside one of its two arenas.

Combine tennis, racquetball, table tennis, and badminton, and you'll get pickleball, a sport that is becoming more and more popular in Canada.

The hard-surfaced racket is inspired by that of table tennis and racquetball and the holey plastic ball is similar to that used by cosom hockey. Pickleball can be played in singles or doubles, and field sizes are comparable to badminton.

The Dorval Tennis Club offers its subscribers and their guests 8 clay tennis courts for day and evening play. Subscribers can book courts and participate in round robins, join the interclub, sign up for lessons, clinics, and junior programs, and much more!

All ages and levels of play are welcome. Whether players want a social or competitive experience, there is something for everyone at the club.

Sports Programming

Getting children active in a healthy environment and encouraging sports participation are core values of the Dorval Day Camp. With this in mind, here is what the camp is offering this summer:

At the SACC

As in past years, children who, as part of the regular summer session offered by the City of Dorval, will be registered with an aquatic team (swimming, diving, or artistic swimming) or in swimming lessons at the SACC will be accompanied by camp staff during their activities. We ask parents to prioritize swimming lessons offered at 9:05 a.m., Monday to Thursday, in order to facilitate the camp’s operations. A form must be completed by the parent or legal guardian and submitted to the administration for this purpose.

At the ERA – New!

Children registered at the ERA site will have the opportunity to register, if they wish, to one of the following sports programs:

• Tennis Option
  Available only for the weeks 3, 4, 5, and 6
  • At the Dorval Tennis Club
  • Tennis sessions on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday
    • 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. for ages 6 to 8
    • 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. for ages 9 to 11
  • All levels are welcome!
  • Cost: $60 per week
• Swimming Option
  Available every week of the camp
  • At the Dorval Aquatic and Sports Complex
  • This option must be taken for two consecutive weeks to allow the child to complete their level in the aquatic program.
  • Lessons offered Monday to Thursday
    • From 9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. for ages 6 to 8
    • From 10:15 a.m. to 11 a.m. for ages 9 to 11
  • A swim test will be required on the first day of the session to determine each child’s swim level.
  • Cost:
    • Ages 6 to 8: $30 for two weeks
    • Ages 9 to 11: $48 for two weeks

Children participating in a sports program will be accompanied by camp staff during their activities. It is possible to select more than one option during different weeks throughout the summer.
