Reusable Sanitary Products
Currently, disposable sanitary products constitute large amounts of waste for landfills and can take up to 500 years to decompose.
It is important to promote the use of reusable sanitary products to reduce the volume of waste sent to landfills and to encourage actions aimed at environmental preservation and sustainable development.
Therefore, the City of Dorval offers a financial aid program aiming to promote the use of various reusable sanitary products, while supporting Quebec-based businesses.
For complete details, including eligible reusable products, consult the integral version of the by-law concerning the financial aid program by clicking here (PDF - 114 KB).
Request for Financial Aid
To be admissible for the financial aid program for the acquisition or rental of reusable hygiene products, the applicant must be a resident of the City of Dorval and, in the case of reusable hygiene products for children, have parental authority of a child or a child expected to be born within the next six months.
The financial aid amount provided under this program is 50% of the acquisition or rental cost of reusable hygiene products before taxes. The financial aid is set at $225 per calendar year, per residence. If all the products were purchased from a Dorval-based business, the maximum amount is set at $275.
Any request for financial aid must be made in writing on the form prescribed for this purpose and filed with the Mayor’s office no later than three months after the acquisition of the product. The following documents are required to submit a request:
1) Completed request form (PDF - 140 KB).
2) The original purchase or rental invoice or receipt on which are indicated the date, the name of the Quebec-based business that made the sale or rental, and its GST and QST numbers.
3) A copy of a document proving that the applicant resides on the City’s territory.
4) If necessary, either a copy of the birth or adoption certificate from a competent authority establishing the applicant’s parental authority and the child’s age, or a certificate signed by a doctor indicating the expected delivery date in the next six months.
