Saint-Charles Park nominated at the Grands Prix du génie-conseil québécois

The City of Dorval is proud to announce that the redevelopment of Saint-Charles Park was nominated in the Urban Infrastructures category at the 23rd edition of the Grands Prix du génie-conseil québécois, a prestigious competition held on September 22, 2025, at Théâtre Manuvie in Brossard.

Organized under the theme GÉNIE+CONSEIL: At the Crossroads of Expertise, this event highlights excellence and innovation in consulting engineering while showcasing the added value of collaborative projects of all kinds.

A redesigned park for all

Through a rigorous approach to engineering and landscape architecture, Saint-Charles Park has become one of the largest inclusive parks in Québec.

The project, carried out in partnership with EXP, introduced accessible and safe facilities that meet the needs of a wide variety of users. Key features include:

  • adapted play modules for children with physical or psychological disabilities;
  • a brand-new water play area for families to enjoy and cool off;
  • universal accessibility, eliminating barriers and making the park usable for everyone, including people with reduced mobility.

Leading-edge ecological design

Beyond inclusivity, the project stands out for its innovative ecological and sustainable practices.

Highlights include:

  • the creation of bioretention areas that reduce impermeable surfaces, improve biodiversity, retain stormwater, and promote infiltration;
  • adapted vegetation that improves air quality, regulates temperatures, and enriches local biodiversity;
  • the use of SWMM (Storm Water Management Model) simulations to design and optimize stormwater management infrastructure.

These initiatives make Saint-Charles Park a benchmark for modern, sustainable urban recreational development.

A valuable recognition

Although the project did not win an award, its nomination alone is a prestigious acknowledgment. It recognizes the remarkable work of the teams involved, their creativity, and their ability to design infrastructures that directly enhance the quality of life of Dorval’s residents.
