Modernizing and Simplifying Curbside Recycling Recovery - Bin Impact

Since January 1, 2025, recycling has never been easier! The modernization of the curbside recycling system involves a gradual change in the colour of recycling bins and brings some changes to the materials accepted in the bin.

Since January 1, 2025, recycling has never been easier! As part of an awareness campaign, Éco Entreprises Québec (ÉEQ), appointed by the Gouvernement du Québec to manage and modernize the province-wide collection and processing system for recyclable materials, has launched the Bin Impact initiative.

The modernization of the curbside recycling system involves a gradual change in the colour of recycling bins and brings some changes to the materials accepted in the bin. The aim is to make the process simpler, safer and more uniform across the province. No more checking recycling symbols or testing plastics for flexibility. From now on, all containers, packaging and printed paper go straight into the bin!

Please note:

  • The adoption of the blue bin throughout the territory will be phased in gradually.
  • Green bins will still be emptied during pickup, but blue bins will gradually be distributed to replace those that are irreparably damaged or stolen.
  • There will only be one list of recyclable materials for all of Québec. Knowing what to put in the bin isn’t complicated. You only have to ask yourself: is it a container, packaging, or printed paper?

DID YOU KNOW?
→ A container comes with a cap or a lid.
→ Packaging is used to easily transport a product.
→ Containers and packaging made of degradable plastic should not be placed in the bin. They will contaminate all other recyclable materials.

EXAMPLES OF CONTAINERS AND PACKAGING
✓ Household cleaning product container

✓ Cardboard box
✓ Aluminum foil and plate
✓ Packaging of takeaway and prepared food

EXAMPLES OF PRINTED PAPER
