Flooding on Dorval Avenue
Repair work on a sanitary pipe has been underway on Dorval Avenue for several weeks. This work is being carried out by the Agglomeration of Montreal, which, as the project manager, oversees the site and selects the contractor currently on site.
Since the beginning of the work, pumps have been used to ensure proper drainage of rainwater. However, these pumps have not functioned adequately, resulting in repeated flooding of basements in nearby homes and businesses.
To support affected residents, the City of Dorval has held numerous meetings with stakeholders in this matter to demand adjustments that will ensure the safety and peace of mind of the area.
Following the most recent flooding (September 4), it was decided to remove the pumps so that rainwater could be drained through the existing pipeline—a method that had never caused issues prior to the start of these repair works.
The Agglomeration of Montreal’s work is expected to be completed within one to two weeks. In the meantime, the City of Dorval will continue to monitor the situation and maintain pressure on the responsible parties to prevent further flooding. The City will also assist affected residents in the following ways:
- Claims related to the flooding can be submitted to the City’s Legal Affairs and Registry Department. They will then be forwarded directly to the Agglomeration of Montreal. The form can be completed and submitted along with supporting documents.
