At its April 15 meeting, Dorval's municipal council adopted a resolution of intent with respect to the building located at 12 Dahlia Avenue.
The elected officials acknowledged the conclusions of the architectural and structural audit carried out at the request of the City by several experts. This report shows that the annex, built in 1965, does not meet the requirements of the Quebec Construction Code, particularly in terms of wind bracing, fire protection, insulation, and personal safety.
In addition, the cost of continuing to operate and maintain this annex would be significant, given all of its non-compliances.
The elected officials therefore agreed that the necessary steps should be planned to ensure the safe demolition of the annex built in 1965 and the eventual greening of the site, while reiterating their desire to protect the original part of the building, built in 1803 and known as the "Quatre Vents" residence, as well as the adjacent chapel.
The architectural features of these two sections represent important elements to be preserved for the City, and work will be carried out to improve the structure of the heritage section as well as the chapel to ensure compliance with current regulations.
